Deacon & Pastor Recommendation

Members of The Church At Mon River can recommend other members of our church for Deacon or Pastor leadership roles. To be considered, a candidate must receive one recommendation from a pastor and two from non-pastoral church members and personally complete a Self-Assessment. Women and men can be considered for Deacons, but we follow the Bible’s teachings that God has appointed men to be the spiritual leaders and teachers of our church (1 Timothy 2:12).

Part I: Character

Does the candidate exhibit self-control? *

Is the candidate of a sound mind and not given to their impulses? *

Is the candidate orderly and modest? *

Is the candidate hospitable? *

Is the candidate gentle with others and not a bully? *

Does the candidate avoid quarrels? *

Does the candidate avoid greed? *

Has the candidate’s faith in Christ endured trials of life? *

Is the candidate viewed well by people outside the church? *

Is the candidate an example of godly speech, love, faith, and purity? *

Does the candidate avoid gossip? *

Candidates who are married or have children:

Does the candidate love his wife as Christ does the church? *

Does the Deacon candidate submit to her husband as the church does to Christ? *

Does the candidate’s children generally obey him or her? *

Part II: Conviction

Does the candidate hold to any beliefs that contradict our church’s Statement of Beliefs? *

Part III: Competency

Does the candidate regularly attend Sunday Worship Gatherings? *

Is the candidate involved in a Discipleship Group? *

Is the candidate involved in a Serve Group? *

Is the candidate involved in a Mission Group or personal evangelism? *

Has the candidate completed the following Equip Classes: Leading Discipleship Groups, Leading Mission Groups, Leading Serve Groups, Christian Beliefs, and Christian Relationships? *

Is the candidate already doing the functions of the role for which they are aspiring? *

Is the candidate a servant-leader? *
